About me
My journey as an artist started while I was still very young. The passion grew stronger with time.
Over the years, I have lived in places as diverse as Oman, Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai. Each new location and the experience enriched me both as an individual and as an artist, adding fresh dimensions to my work.
I enjoy creating meticulous work against the backdrop of textured surfaces, combining free-flowing shapes with geometrical forms.
My work has greatly changed and evolved. My earliest period in mid 80’s to mid 90’s, explored the relationship between Man and Woman, with a focus on the female form. Between 2004-2012, I concentrated on the male form and was fascinated by the precision with which the human body works. Subsequently, I turned to portraiture. With each face, I tried to tell a story with which one could connect and empathize.
In mid 2015, I went to New York to attend an art workshop in Silk-Screen Printing. The experience was transformative—the city’s eclectic and energetic environment and a different medium resulted in a new direction for me, as an artist.
I became interested in nature and its beauty, and started exploring the fascinating world of plants, foliage, animals and birds. I rediscovered the joys of colour as my work in the last decade was mostly monochromatic. I turned to Indian miniatures, textiles, handicrafts, and architecture for further inspiration.
Blurring many boundaries in my present body of works, I have combined elements from different forms of art to pursue beauty in colour and design. My sculptures of birds, reminiscent of earthen toys, are dedicated to the memories of innocent and carefree times of our childhood.
As I move forward as an artist, I find myself going back to an idyllic past. It is at this intersection that the series ‘The Enchanted Forest’ stands.
